Performer: The fifth studio album by the early Tom Waits-inspired combo led by glamorous actress cum smoky chanteuse Leonor Watling, Un Día Extraordinario finds Marlango once more re-creating their trademark late-night joint atmosphere - albeit one that is more feel-good than desperate - drawing from cabaret, jazz, blues, bolero, and ranchera. The only substantial difference is that for the first time the group decided to write the entire album in Spanish; yet this linguistic revolution turns out to have surprisingly little impact on the ultimate musical end product.
