Few, if any, of these artists will be well known to anyone outside of the Lone Star State, but it quickly becomes apparent that all these artists mastered the grooves from their James Brown records. Quite a few artists here replicate the style and approach of the Godfather of Soul to a T, namely the Latin Breed's "I Turn You On" and the Majestics' "Funky Chick," but others inject their own "thang. Texas Funk 1968-1975. Only 2 left in stock (more on the way). Essentail Funk 101: get down on the good foot with Lone Star State finest. Gritty wah wah guitars with thumping bass and drums for a mess of fine tunes. Really enjoyed this album and felt there was real promise in some of the music. Now I think I know where Sly & The Family Stone grew up. It's really nice stuff with a clean, crisp sound for those of you who like early funk.

Texas Funk (Black Gold from the Lone Star State 1968-1975) NEW AND SEALED. This first album from Welsh art-rockers Lone Star is not as well-known as it should be. It features the twin guitars of Tony Smith and Paul Chapman (later of UFO), one of the best rhythm sections in rock of Hurley and Lee, great synth playing from Worsnop and the excellent vocals of Kenny Driscoll.

The heavy duty funk and soul archeologists, Now-Again Records, return with their latest compilation Florida Funk – Funk 45s from the Alligator State, 1968-1975. Like it’s predecessors Florida Funk digs deep and unearths nuggets that have, in many cases, never seen the light of day in terms of a CD or digital release, .

Mickey & The Soul Generation - Give Everybody Some 11. Road Runners - Every Man For Himself 1. 1 & 2 The result of 24 months exhaustive digging, 'Texas Funk' is a 21 track groove bomb, the definitive anthology of the rawest and rarest cuts from the thriving 1968 ˆ 1974 funk scene in the lone star state. These 30 year old recordings, often pressed in quantities of less that 500 and sold only at shows, can now enjoy the exposure they deserve, and for the first time a wider public can experience the fire and passion inherent in a sound created for pure love.
